Curly Icelandic Sheepskin as a Material
Curly Icelandic sheep wool stands out for its natural texture and softly forming curls. The surface of the wool is lively and three-dimensional, making the material visually interesting in interior design.
The airy fiber structure of the wool creates a noticeably soft surface. A curly Icelandic sheepskin brings interesting texture to a space and serves as a striking natural material in both interior design and decorative use.

Material information - Curly Icelandic Sheepskins
Material
Curly Icelandic Sheepskin
Icelandic sheepskin wool combines a soft undercoat with a longer outer coat, creating its characteristic two-layer structure. The natural curl and layering of the wool give the hide a rich, textured, and striking appearance.
The leather side of the hide has been finished into a soft suede, the velvety feel of which complements the refined quality of the material.
Features
Characteristics of a genuine sheepskin
Every BääBää Icelandic sheepskin is unique. The shade, curl, length, and natural shape of the fleece vary slightly, which makes each sheepskin one of a kind.
The double-layered wool of the Icelandic sheep consists of a soft undercoat and a longer topcoat. Wool is a naturally breathable and heat-insulating material that feels comfortable in all seasons.
The natural properties of the wool make the sheepskin easy to care for. Wool naturally repels dirt and odors. Its airy structure also helps to dampen sound and improve the acoustics of a room.

A carefully finished hide retains its natural properties and is suitable for long-term use as part of your interior.
Measurements
Sheepskin dimensions
- Length is measured diagonally from the highest point of the sheepskin to the lowest point, including the wool.
- Width is measured across the widest part of the middle section of the sheepskin, including the wool.
- Please note that the dimensions we provide are always indicative. Minor variations in measurements are possible due to the natural shape and the handcrafted nature of the product.
Tips for choosing
Tips for choosing a sheepskin
The long, abundant wool of an Icelandic sheepskin drapes beautifully over a seat, backrest, or any other surface. When choosing the size, consider both the intended use and how much drape you would like the wool to have.
- For a chair - A medium size is often suitable as a seat pad. The long wool adds softness and drapes naturally over the edges of the chair.
- For an armchair or sofa - A larger sheepskin gives the wool room to drape elegantly over the seat and backrest.
- For the floor - A larger sheepskin or a combination of several sheepskins works well as a soft, textured rug.
- In pairs - Sheepskins are often chosen in pairs, for example for two chairs or to accompany a sofa, which helps maintain a cohesive look.
- For multi-sheepskin arrangements – We are happy to help you choose the right sizes and materials so that the proportions and the drape of the wool form a harmonious whole.
Special requests: If you have specific wishes regarding the shape, wool length, shade, or intended use of the sheepskin, you can include them in the additional information field in the shopping cart when placing your order.
Care instructions
Caring for a curly-wool sheepskin
- Regular shaking and airing help keep the sheepskin fresh and maintain the natural look of the wool.
- Avoid brushing a curly-wool sheepskin, as brushing can open up the curls and alter the natural texture of the wool.
- Light vacuuming removes dust and loose particles accumulated on the surface of the wool. Use a low power setting on the vacuum and avoid vigorous rubbing.
- The sheepskin can be treated with lanolin.
- A genuine sheepskin does not require washing unless it becomes heavily soiled.
- Spot clean stains locally with a mild detergent suitable for wool.
- Avoid excessive moisture and getting the item wet.

Origin
The origin of our Icelandic sheepskins
The genuine Icelandic sheepskins in the BääBää Icelandic collection originate from Iceland, where they are a byproduct of meat production. In this way, a valuable natural material is given a new purpose as long-lasting interior design products.
Curly Sheepskin in Interior Design
The curly Icelandic sheepskin brings lively texture and natural softness to your interior. Its airy curls create a surface that reflects light in varied ways, giving the hide a distinct, three-dimensional look.
The sheepskin serves as a striking element when placed, for instance, on a chair or sofa, draped over a bed, or used as a soft decorative piece on the floor. The curly wool adds warmth and natural texture to a space, complementing both modern and more timeless interiors.
