Care and washing instructions for reindeer hide

Handle with care – reindeer hide is more delicate than sheepskin. Its hollow hair is an excellent insulator, but it can shed more easily. That’s why we recommend reindeer fur especially for decorative and lighter use.

Reindeer Hide Care Guide

Ventilation and shaking

Ventilation – the best way to keep reindeer hides fresh. Take the hide outside in dry, cool weather. Avoid direct sunlight, which can make the leather brittle.
Light shaking removes dust and loose particles.

Stain removal

Remove stains locally. Remove stains gently with a damp cloth. If necessary, use mild soapy water. Do not rub - the hair may come off.

Dehumidification

If the coat gets wet, air dry it at room temperature, hair side up. Never dry on a heater or in direct sunlight.

Combing

You can lightly brush the reindeer hide in the direction of the hair, but avoid brushes with dense bristles. Reindeer hides naturally shed hair, so remember to be gentle.

Washing

Washing only in exceptional circumstances

Home washing: We do not recommend washing the entire reindeer hide at home, as the hair can come off and the leather can become brittle. If washing is necessary, take the hide to a professional for dry cleaning.

Stain cleaning: Wipe the stained areas by hand with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Avoid soaking and harsh mechanical treatment.

Drying: Dry flat in the shade and lightly style while drying.

Preservation

Store reindeer hide in a dry, cool, well-ventilated place. Avoid damp areas and long-term storage in plastic.

Use

We recommend reindeer fur primarily for interior use – for example on a wall, headboard or as a decoration. With heavy use, the fur may come off over time.

Examples of uses for reindeer hide

  • Decorative element for the floor, wall or above the bed
  • As a decoration at the cottage – brings warmth and a touch of nature indoors
  • An eye-catcher in the living room, fireplace room or guest room
  • As a warming detail for a rocking chair or bench, for example
  • As a photography prop – creates a natural and atmospheric background
  • For trade fair or store decoration – attracts attention and creates an authentic atmosphere
  • A gift for a lover of natural materials or a wild-spirited decorator
  • For Nordic-themed interiors – a perfect choice for Scandinavian or rustic styles

Tips

For decorative use – not for heavy use. The fur of reindeer hide is hollow and sheds naturally, so we recommend it especially for interior decoration and lighter use.

A beautiful eye-catcher. Place the reindeer hide on the wall, floor, on the bed or on a bench in the cottage - it will bring a touch of northern atmosphere to your home or leisure space.

A warming and eye-catching detail. Although the hide is delicate, it insulates heat effectively and creates a cozy feel in any space.

Ventilate regularly. Often, simply ventilating the fur is enough to keep it fresh – avoid washing it, as moisture makes the fur and leather brittle.

Dry carefully. If the coat gets wet, dry it at room temperature, hair side up. Do not place on a radiator or in direct sunlight.

Avoid rubbing. The hair can easily come off from mechanical wear, so avoid sitting or vigorous handling.

Store in an airy place. Store reindeer hide in a dry and cool place, preferably in a cloth bag. Do not fold for a long time - the hide may crack.

An experiential gift. Reindeer hide is a unique and natural gift idea – perfect for a cottage wedding or a special celebration.
